Request For Funding

MEDICAL RESEARCH GRANTS

Every year institutions are asked to select one, two or three best applications for research grants into progressive neurological disorders, stroke or palliative care to commence the following year.  The number depends on the Foundation’s available funds for that year.

Applicants for grants, which are for $60,000, must be carrying out research in the State of Victoria and preference will be given to research projects that have an active link with Calvary Health Care Bethlehem.

We only accept applications in response to our call out on the website and they must come centrally from each institution. Researchers can only enter one application each, regardless of whether they are the chief investigator or a member of another team.

Researchers must be able to commence their project at the beginning of the following year for completion on 31 December of that year.

All projects are funded for one year and investigators seeking further funding need to apply as separate stand-alone projects for each year.

The Foundation is committed to maximising medical research and consequently does not fund administrative overheads.

Applications are assessed using the criteria below:

  • Innovation and creativity
  • Research quality and feasibility
  • Significance, and
  • Track record relative to opportunity

Application forms with restrictions on length can be downloaded from [here] at any time but can only be submitted when the dates for the applications are announced.

PhD SCHOLARSHIPS

When funding is available the Foundation calls for applications for a PhD scholarship. This is subject to available funds and is not offered every year. Applications must be coordinated through each institution’s research office which can submit up to three candidates for consideration.

This scholarship is intended to assist first-class honours students who have not received an Australian Postgraduate Award or other substantial scholarship. Applicants must have completed tertiary studies that are at least equivalent to a 4-year honours degree at an Australian university with a minimum result of first-class honours. Also, applicants must be Victorian residents and have applied for, or be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree. The successful applicant must be able to commence their PhD early in the following year.

Applications from H1 students must include the following:

  • cover page with name, institution, PhD title and contact details for the applicant and research office
  • 100-200 word summary of their PhD proposal
  • Copy of academic transcript and CV
  • Letter of support from the supervisor

Scholarships cover two-thirds of a full three-year scholarship and students will be required to seek an additional third from their department or other sources.
